10 Things I Learned in 2017

10 Things I Learned in 2017

Hi loves! I can't believe it's 2018! OMG! 2017 went by so quickly, so I can't imagine how fast 2018 is going to go. This past year I have learned a lot of valuable lessons. I think that it is always good to evaluate your year before moving on to the next. Here are 10 valuable lessons I have learned in 2017:

1. Change Doesn't Have to be Bad

Change is a scary word. At least, for me. The idea of something new happening is frightening. Change always takes time to get used to. For me, in 2017 I changed schools. I chose to be positive in this situation. In short, change can be good or bad... It's just how you perceive it.

2. Exploring New Places is Crucial

We live in a bubble. You may not realize this, but we do. If there is any chance that you are reading this, you must be well off. Devices cost money. Anyways, I recently went to Cuba and everything was different. You don't gain wisdom if you don't travel. Embracing yourself in a different culture is important. Why? So you can understand what is happening in the rest of the world.

3. Life is Too Short to "Wait for it"

You can't just stand around and wait for life to give you happiness. You have to create it. If you want to go to college, work hard. If you want to model, find an agent. Think about your future now, so you can start creating it. Don't wait for permission to start doing what you love. #Preach

4. Using a Planner is Helpful and Useful

It really is. That's why this year I am going to try and use my planner more. It's just too hard to keep track of everything that happens. I want to use my planner to make sure I don't forget about homework and other important activities. So far, it's been extremely helpful. You can even just set reminders on your phone.

5. Helping Others Feeds Your Soul

If you don't know already, I work with a foundation called In a Perfect World. We make it our goal to help others in need. We try and do a service project every month. I have to say, it feels good to give back. I am making it a goal to do as much as I can to help others. You should too.

6. Be Your Own Role Model

So I heard this phrase a lot in 2017. You hear boys and girls always choosing role models, but really, they should be appreciating their own unique traits. I think everyone is guilty of looking at a picture of a celebrity and wishing you were them. In reality, we should really appreciate ourselves. I have now chosen to be my own role model.

7. Treat Yo Self

This is something a lot of people forget to do. In 2017 I learned that part of being successful is rewarding yourself the good things you do. For instance, when I complete my homework, I go lay in my bed for a couple of minutes to recharge. Then, I proceed with household chores. Make sure to Treat yo Self in 2018...it isn’t a bad thing. :)

8. Meeting New People is Fun

Last year I started 8th grade at a new school. I had to immediately adapt to all of the new people surrounding me. There were tons of interesting people to meet. At first, it was scary to approach people,  but after awhile, I got used to it. I learned that meeting new people was an interesting way to see into different cultures. Overall, don’t be afraid to talk to others. You may just find your new best friend.

9. I Can Make an Impact

Most people don’t realize this. One person can make a difference. This applies to everything including volunteering. I learned that as a young adult, I can make as much impact as the person next to me. Kids and teens have so much power that they are unaware of. It’s time for us to step up.

10. Time’s Up!

In the past year, Hollywood stars have been sharing their harassment stories. It takes a lot of courage to come out and tell your story.  In this new year, we need to make an effort to stop harassment and stand with others who have been harassed. Change needs to happen, and we can only do it if we work together. Let’s do this 2018...
